Charleston County Black School Directory collection, 1989- 1991.

Collection contains source materials for the Directory of Charleston County Black Schools including lists, index cards, guideline sheets, drafts, articles, clippings, letters, notes, pamphlets, and miscellaneous items. Collection contains a typescript alphabetical list of Charleston County parochial, private, and public schools, as well as handwritten and typescript index cards arranged in files by geographical area. Each card lists the name and location of a particular school with occasional annotations. Other materials include typescript copies of the worksheet form "Guidelines for Organizing School Histories," information on student record locations, and typescript drafts (1990-1991) of the Directory. Drafts include the names of the project supervisor, project assistants, and members of the Directory Research Committee. Collection contains copies of completed worksheet "Guidelines" with handwritten information about each school. Worksheet folders are arranged alphabetically by school district. Collection also contains typescript and photocopied data about individual schools, and photocopied articles concerning the history of black schools in Charleston (S.C.). Collection includes pamphlets, photocopies of articles and photographs, clippings, letters containing information about the schools, and bibliographic information. Miscellaneous items include a "Book Week" poster and a printed poem.
